COLLOQUIUM TO PRESENT THE RESULTS OF THE PROJECT FOR THE RESCUE OF LA PIEDAD LAGOON (FEBRUARY 19, 2024)

On February 19, 2024, the Colloquium was held at the Metropolitan Autonomous University-Azcapotzalco, in Auditorium W002, to present the research results of the project "UAM-EPIC Rescue of La Piedad Lagoon." This long-term project, which began more than 8 years ago, aims to comprehensively rescue the La Piedad Lagoon in Cuautitlan Izcalli, State of Mexico.

The event brought together academics, governmental authorities [i.e., the local government, the National Water Commission (CONAGUA), and the Water Commission of the State of Mexico (CAEM)], ejidal leaders, representatives of the communities of San Jose Huilango and San Francisco Tepojaco, environmental organizations, the private sector, and the student community involved in the project.

This sustained effort has developed Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) and agroecological practices with a social and solidarity approach and strengthened the area's water governance. Implementing the EPIC model in the rescue efforts of Laguna La Piedad has involved students and faculty members from the three divisions of the Azcapotzalco Unit in developing students' professional capacities. It also highlights the commitment and effort of the Metropolitan Autonomous University (UAM) to build bridges and support communities in solving complex problems that impact their quality of life and relevant ecosystems.
